ENARECO (Environment and NAtural REsource ECOnomics) - is the title of the post-graduated study program at Ukrainian National Forestry University.

It has been designed to lead graduates with a first academic degree to the degree 'Master of Environment and Natural Resource Economics'.

The study program has been launched on 1 September 1998

According to the results of the 1992 UNCED - Conference at Rio, "Sustainable development" comprises ecological as well as economic and social aspects. In consequence, human activities can only be deemed sustainable, as long as equal attention is paid to all three of these aspects alike.

Presently, Ukrainian economy is in a state of transition from a planned economy to a market system.

Due to this transformation process, novel ecological, economic and social challengers have to be met.

Therefore, sustainable development should be induced as an instrument to bring society's various demands into balance with each other and nature's tolerance to human interference.

Graduates of the ENARECO-study program will attain to competence for the solution of complex management-tasks in the field of sustainable development:

ability to balance economic and ecological demands and necessities,
applied eco-management, i.e. capability to solve ecological problems by applying marketeconomic instruments,
full understanding and acceptance of sustainability according to its definition in the AGENDA 21,
competence in the fields of environmental policy and law in order to apply various political and legal instruments at different administrative levels and NGO's,
specific knowledge and practical experience in the fields of sustainable land use and tourism.

ENARECO was designed for graduates, who have already obtained bachelor degree in one of the following directions:

Economics,
Social sciences,
Agriculture/Forestry,
Law,
Earth sciences,
Landscape/Park Management,
Biology,
Ecology.

In Western Europe, the need for experts who combine general knowledge of economics, social sciences and law as well as competence in the field of natural sciences such as biology and ecology has significantly increased during the last decade.

A similar demand is very likely to develop in Ukraine in the near future:

in the context of economic growth and development,
when international treaties and agreements have to be put into effect,
in the context of increasing globalization of markets

ENARECO's graduates will have fair chances for employment in the following fields, related to sustainable development:

all levels of administration,
private as well as state-owned enterprises,
various institutions and organizations,
education.

educational institutions (e.g. universities, academies, colleges, schools).
